Ok I have a server here http://www.planetminecraft.com/server/v ... chocolate/ that is not hugely popular but I get enough people.
When looking at the server lists it really confuses me. How does one get on the popular scrolling slider? Votes? Well I have more votes than http://www.planetminecraft.com/server/a ... ew-server/ but this server is on the top o.O. OOh ok it must be diamonds? NOPE I have 2 times as many diamonds. Ahhhh i get it it's comments! WOO i figured it out............. Well poop i have more comments!
I really just don't get how this server gets on top like it does. Here's how they say they calculate who gets on top.
Q. How is the score computed for the top list?
A: Score = 1.5 * votes + .033 * days since server posted to PMC. As system evolves so will the algorithm. i.e. Day weight increase and other stats may be factored in.
This guys does have more views but this is because its on the top page.
Also I am not trying to single out this server cause there is other servers that i do not think they deserve this spot either. Like http://www.planetminecraft.com/server/t ... nomy-shop/
When there is servers like http://www.planetminecraft.com/server/m ... s-1058476/ that have 1000s of votes but they don't make the slider because why?
I don't care about being on the slider but i think servers that get on this slider should at least deserve it . I host the server cause I want people to join my server I love planetminecrafts server list cause you can bump servers daily I think it's the only server list that allows that. I still don't see why servers that can only handle like 20 people and have nothing unique going on get the a top spot like the slider that I know get more views than where every my server is on the list since I have not bumped mine in 2 days.

No one seems to really care that the server list is broke it's a shame.

o.O this still makes no sense. Right now this server is on the top slider now. http://www.planetminecraft.com/server/f ... eed-staff/ and it's offline. but yet got 646 views today. I don't get how a server gets on the "Popular Server" slider and can be down.

I can't really tell you exactly how it works, else some people that I know will attempt to abuse it. It is indeed based on many factors, and generally it is -over time-.

I have found a couple of patterns.
1.) When the server first comes onto the banner, it has to be around 17 - 19 days old
2.) The servers stay on it for a while
3.) when they first come on there, they have barely any diamonds and votes but some views
I have a server which it here:

and it has 23 diamonds, 81 votes, 2,305 Views, 240 today, 26 Comments, and 6 Favorites.
I expect for it to come onto the banner today or tomorrow
