Server needs help with plugins!

Thank you for looking at this post.
I'm making a server soon, and i need some plugins to get started.
Normally i would add Essentials, but that doesn't seem to work with spigot.
If anyone could help/know of a way to get essentials or so, please reply soon.

I got it to work now.

Which version should i use? I guess i was using the 1.7.10 - 1.8 Is that the wrong version? I'm not sure.

There really isn't an error, just plugins won't be recognized or work when i put them in the plugin folder.
Try using a Different spigot version?
