I would like to make a sever...

I saw an add on the side of minecraft saying the internet connection would be on them or something like that is it real or fake or what? All I want to do is make a server that me and my friends can play on. With mods cause I have The Tekkit Launcher and I want the Voxelmodpack on there... How would I do it? Can i get help?
