Okay, so the AlienWare Alpha is coming out soon, and I know someone who's getting it for their son. I don't know what you should get from a custom built for what price vs the AlienWare, so what is your opinion?

I personally don't like the concept of it. A console-looking thing that is supposed to run steam? Honestly, I don't think it is worth the investment, but what do I know? Maybe in a few years I'll have one of my own! A nice little guide and interview can be found here.
For $450, it's actually not that bad. The hardware power isn't really worth $450 (mostly because of the GPU that we know next to nothing about), but it comes with a lot of free games. You can also upgrade some of the components.
