Hello.
I'm sure this problem was discussed many times but there's still changes i'd love to see on the site.
Copycats are everywhere. They take your hard work and change colours, 2 pixels or even copy as it is and call it their own.
You can report them, but mostly it just results in deleting that particular submission.

Seems like nobody reads the rules. Even when you upload anything, you're informed every time what to NOT do.
What i'd love to see is more strict punishments for copycats. Remove their ability to upload anything when they copied and got reported for it. After first time, not after 10th time they did it. Sure they can make new accounts. But i bet it would decrease their number a lot. As well as number of report staff has to check.

A cute example of copycat

And his result of skincrafting was an exact copy of already existing skin uploaded 2 months ago by other player.

Then why is it on Minecraft.net when you go to change your skin, underneath it says take the base skin and edit it?

consider this: Mojang is suggesting you use the base skin from their own site. They have the RIGHTS to distribute it from there. All skin mixing sites have NO RIGHTS to the image, and using their illegal content doesn't make it "legal."

As well, when minecraft.net says "use the base image and edit it" the point is that it shows the skin structure layout. They do NOT say "put Steve into a pimp suit and call it original."

There are going to be alot a Steve in a suit skins to delete now.

using Steve as a base is actually against MOJANG copyright rules. So yes, we mean using Steve too.

Start by downloading the reference skin.
Edit it in your favorite image editing tool and save it as a png image. Make sure you keep the same image dimensions as the original. When you're happy with the result upload the image here.

If you draw everything by yourself, then its allright.

But if you put already existing parts, its not ok.

I use skincraft but I use a Blank template (White background) and put no already made parts. Is that allowed?

EVERY TIME YOU UPLOAD A SKIN, YOU GET THIS INFO:

Do Not Upload:

* Skins that someone else created.

* Recolored or Pixel Adjustment Skins - Example: Changing eyes, adding noise, shirt color, etc.

* Remix Skins without Permission & Credit - Example: Using another skin as a base or using skin parts you didn't create

"Using another skin as a base or using skin parts you didn't create"

Skincraft, Minershoes, etc. are programs that uses skin parts.

I think you are allowed to use Skincraft but you can't claim you fully made it, I am not sure though. I have had a few copy cats on my old account but not on this one, luckily.
