i wanted to make an texture pack of my own anyone know how to get the format?

It's pretty easy.
Just pop open minecraft.jar, then copy over any files that you want to alter. After changing them, just zip it back up and you're done
Keep in mind: If an image is in a folder in the jar, it's gotta be in the same folder in the pack. That is, a new armor texture has to be in a folder called armor in the pack since it's in a folder called armor in the jar.
