Grid Mining?
So as the title suggests im wanting to know what grid mining is.
Im doing a mining tutorials series on youtube and i was looking at a really well written guide on mining in the Voxelbox wiki by featherblade: http://www.voxelwiki.com/minecraft/Elites_of_Minecraft:_The_Miner
And i noticed a section called grid mining, it was very short and said something like: The grid mine was one of the first breakthroughs in mining. But it is now outdated. etc etc
So what i would like to know is What is grid mining and is there a more efficient way to do it.
Also if anyone wants me to make a video on a certain technique just pm me.

Grid mining is mining in a grid pattern at diamond level, similar to what lines on graph paper look like.
When I go diamond mining, I don't use this method. I go to Y:11 and dig a 2x3 tunnel. I go as far as I want then make another tunnel parallel to the first with a 2 block thick wall between the two. This continues for as long as I desire. Produces a lot of cobble and takes a lot of tools, but yields a decent amount of ore.
