i just downloaded a world but it wont let me play it in single player why???

You have to open the download and then drag that folder in

make sure you have placed the right folder in there, sometimes the actual map is placed another folder in, just a difference in filing and zipping methods

Depends, was it an actual world save or an schematic file? If it's the latter, then you'ed have to manually import the build into your Minecraft world saves/worlds. If not, make sure the world save was not corrupted when downloading and you installed it correctly.

Un-compress/Un-zip it the world save/file
Place it in your .minecraft/saves folder
