I found some solutions that you may or may not find anywhere else.
The first one is obvious: put your ingame setting to the lowest, but do this from the main menu, if you do it in-game it will make it lag while it loads.
Two is go to the task manager (while running MineCraft) and go to processes and find javaw.exe .
Three is to close all other programs possible before launching.
Four is to uninstall mods you don't use. For example I never needed Mo' Creatures, so it took a load off of my computer when I got rid of it.
Five is don't go idle for too long, it causes lag when you come back. Plus if you have a screen saver (mine takes over 3 days to come up) it causes a lag spike.
Six is if you use mods that can speed you up, if you go too far too fast its will need to load chunks around you.
Seven is if you don't use two different mods at the same time (for some reason) keep several different jars.
If you are planning to say 'Everyone already know this, (you) [Insert insult here]' don't, because new people don't.

2.Does help a little, but not much you should change settings of Java so it allocates more memory instead.
