Lagg for no reason??
Okay so i have a really good computer with dual quad core proccessing power and 24 GB of ram that kinda thing but when i run a minecraft server for my modpack then join it my minecraft laggs like crazy and my computer claims it's using all of my CPU my other computer never lagged like that even though i wasn't hosting a server LAN didn't lagg.... So can anyone tell me why my computer suddenly runs like crap when i launch my modpack and it's server?? I would really like to play comfortably with my friends and by the way when my friend joins she doesn't lag.....

OP, an i7 920 will give you a performance boost, but I am not convinced it will be enough. My brother had issues running some modpacks on an i5-4590, which is about 45% faster than an i7 920.

Something you may try, is to change the CPU Affinity of your server's process (the java process running the server) to say... threads 5-8 and let the MC client start up with the default which "should" be 1-4 (which i don't think it even uses 3 & 4 regularly)
with a little automation, doing this each time you start your server/client should be no big deal

anybody have any ideas??
I hope that tells you all u need let me know if you need a screenshot of the server or something....but i really want this to work...
That's not Speccy, that's Minecraft...
Normally Minecraft would give us the information we need, but you're playing 1.7.10 and you need to be playing one of the latest versions in order for it to provide what we need to know (CPU and GPU information).

First of all I found out why it was laging so badly java is only using 1 of my processors even though i have dual quad core processing power any idea on how to fix that and if so can someone help walk me through it??
That is not true. Minecraft is heavily single-threaded by nature (because of Java), but it makes use of multiple threads.
I need you to tell me what CPU you have.

Because of Java? Not at all.
OP, I'd like to point out Minecraft has a debugging system built in, give a try for shift+f3. A neat pie graph is drawn so you can see what exactly is slowing you down. I'd also like to note that (on my system), simply having the debug screen on had a noticeable performance hit, so the 'gameRender' timings will probably be inaccurate (my system lost about 25% of the fps I should have had).

Okay i just realized that my computer is only using one of my processors and it says it only has one socket but that couldn't be the case so some how gotta fix that....
Okay Fine like i said in a previous post on this thread i have an Dual Quad Core Intel (R) Xeon (R) 2.13 ghz processors.
I've said this about three times now and I do not appreciate having to repeat myself.
That is not enough information.

also why does it work well on my brothers computer and he can join the server while hosting and he doesn't lagg much?? he has less processing power then me not to mention i just reset my computer and did a virus scan and i have zero viruses now...
Why do you keep saying lagg? It's "lag".
Anyways, we still don't know what CPU you have. You haven't told us, and what makes you think that he has less processing power? He obviously has more.

I don't know why resetting my computer didn't fix it :/
Please check this thread out and follow the template. It will let us know your exact specifications and it will help us help you a lot faster.
On a sidenote, do you know the compatibility between these mods? Are they all compatible? Is there something that would cause them to not be?

We need more specifics on your specs.
Alright then...
CPU= Intel (R) Xeon (R) 2.13 GHZ
GPU= AMD Radeon R9
RAM= 24GB
System= 64 bit

You have listed a CPU brand name and clock speed, a GPU brand name, a RAM amount, and the operating system's architecture support. The only thing here we can work with is the RAM.
Run Speccy and post a screenshot of it.

Okay here is a screenshot:

I may have fixed it but just in case my cpu is an Intel(R) Xeon (R) with 2.13 ghz.
Show a screenshot with shift+f3.
I guarantee you my other computer had worse specs and i never ran a server with 200 some mods modpack and a 200 some mods server. the most i did was 100 mods.
maybe try using hamachi and hosting lan? that would be a higher fps but it can cause slight server lag so you might have problems in pvp
Do you have two graphics cards?
If so, make sure to set Minecraft to the good one.

no i have 1 graphics card. And just in case it's two how would i tell it to use my good one??
Also when i was using my other computer i could easily host a server and play on it at the same time with a decent amount of FPS and i didn't have alot of cpu then....
if you still have your other pc then maybe try playing on your new computer and use the old one as the server
Most computers, even if they're good, will not run a Minecraft server plus 200+ modded Minecraft. It's just not going to run well. Your other computer had to have better specs or it wouldn't be possible.

Yes
That's the cause of the lag. Not only will it lag the server but you will receive lag too.
The server is running a whole other Minecraft world and hosting it for other players. It's like running Minecraft twice in a way. Especially with modpacks.

It can't be that, because the server is running on RAM. He has 24GB of RAM. Which is well more than what he needs to run a server and MC. Even him dedicating 4-8GB to each, would leave him with 8-16GB of RAM and that's a lot.
Then how come when i was running a modpack and it's server on my other computer and it worked fine?? but now it doesn't??
1Zera11Zera1Also this never happened with my old computer and it had Worse specs...
Is it possible it's the server causing the lagg?? I don't know how that would make sense though???

My Graphics Card is an AMD Radeon R9
also i only have 76 mods and i can run a modpack that has 100 some mods on single player and it doesn't lagg at all. same when i do single player on any of my other packs which don't even have 100 mods..

Yeah man, I used to have an AMD Readeon R9 290X and even on modpacks with just 100 mods, I would only get about 50-60 fps.
Firstly, make sure Minecraft is making use of the RAM.
Secondly, what GPU do you have? It could easily be the cause.
Thirdly, some mods can lag any computer, especially if the modpack is 200+ mods.
Next, I know you said it wasn't LAN, but is it home hosted? Running a server, especially one with modpacks, can greatly kill your FPS.
Try checking all of these, or ask some other members of the PMC PC Group.
