I have been using mods for a while and I wanted to try to make one,
but I do not know which software to use and it looks pretty hard to make them.

Download MCP (Minecraft coder pack) then run everything in order. Then look at the source and edit/add new things. Then recompile and obfuscate it. Then you're done.
Use Modloader. It will make it a lot easier
You dont need to know java in general, but it helps when it comes to more advanced stuff. If you google Minecraft Modding Tutorials there are some good ones on mcf by simo, bjor and a couple of others.
I know only a little java, but i know flash and C++ So i can get along well enough.
Theres a lot of videos, but like i always say,
Look up TheNewBoston on youtube, he's great java, and i learned in maybe 1 week?
Also a good program is Eclipse.
