Hey guys, I am using a 6 GB RAM on my computer, and I put java to run all 6 GB of RAM, but when I press F3, it says it only uses 910 MB of memory max. It also says that it is using only from 8-300 MB of RAM. How do I make it run around 2 GB of RAM. I am getting a lot of lag from it also.

if you have windows 7 do this:

1. go to start menu
2. go to control panel
3. go to programs
4. click java
5. click java tab in top left
6. click view
7. in "runtime perimeters" type (-Xms1024m) <--- no parenthesis
(1024 = 1GB, 2048 = 2GB, etc.)
8.click ok
9. click apply
10. click ok again

It doesnt sound like a ram problem. My computer has only 4 gigs of ram and hosts a server of 5 with no lag. Do you have a decent graphics card?

Java doesnt need all 6GB of ram to run it, the lagg could be coming from your operating system not having ANY RAM to run on.
Edit:beat me to it =P

F3 shows nothing about how much java is using. Ignore it. Task manager gives you a small idea *roughly*.

Take Java off running 6Gb RAM immediately. You need at least 1Gb of RAM for your operating system.

Anything more than 2Gb is overkill.
