Server Won't Work?

I tried to set up a server for me and my friend to get on, so I downloaded the Windows software for servers, put it in an empty folder, and ran it. When it said the server was done, the folder had everything in it, but at the end of the server after it said it was done loading, it said something about a warning because of time change. After that, I checked the server properties with notepad, and it said the same thing it said on the Minecraft_Server (it said all the stuff like the loading %) instead of properties like animal spawning and stuff. I dont if it was the time change warning or what..

Thats because you opened server.log instead of server.properties
Google 'enable file extensions so that you can see the extension of the files.
The time message is just due to your computer not being good enough. It doesn't mean much unless you get it a lot.
