Snapshot problem

I've recently been trying to download a snapshot. I've got the minecraft.jar file and all, then when I start minecraft, I get a black screen!

I dont understand, am I doing something wrong?

You have to replace the .jar with the snapshot .jar file

Thats what I've done, it still gets a black screen!
(I have some backup .jar files of 1.2.5, is that the problem?)
