this is the second day of my new server and already i've had to reload a backup file because people keep hacking themselves into admin or op and destroying everything. i was hoping there might be a way to stop that but every time i try to search on these forms it ignores words like admin and such because they are apparently over used.
so is there a way to keep people from just appointing themselves admin?

thanks it's been safe since i did the online mode plus i make sure to back it up anytime i leave
oh and the white listing thing isn't really an option because i want most anyone to be able to build for now i just hope i can get some good moderators to help with kicking griefers when they appear

Another way to keep the server somewhat secure (everything requires online-mode=true) is to have the server whitelisted and only allow people that you have whitelisted to build or come into the server. The build thing is better if you want people to be able to visit the server and the only allow whitelisted people is better for pretty much everything else.
Use online mode and you won't have these issues.
i got an idea: admins/ops change your password and do the online-mode to true when online-mode is false players can join that have cracked mc version!
