Texture pack help

I need help with 128x128 texture packs. I can use a 64x64 texture pack with no lag or anything, but if I try to use a 128x128, minecraft freezes and crashes. Does anyone know how to fix this or why it happens. PLEASE REPLY

You computer probably cant handle it.
Does it freeze up once you get into the world? Or when you click on it?
If its when just click on it, it'll take a minute for it to load up so just wait.
