Two Issues
The first issue is that when my friend opens and closes his creative inventory tab, his Minecraft crashes. There are no mods installed. Second, whenever I click 'Join Server' my Minecraft freezes for about 40 seconds before joining. Help?

I have no idea whats going on with the first issue. For the second issue, the same thing happens to me before joining a server and its mainly because the update screwed up connection times to some servers. For example to some servers I have 15 second ping. I had 10ms ping before the update to the same server.
Yes, I have been having the second issue for a few weeks now. I will have to wait until my friend is online for the error code, though.
For your first issue, can you have your friend reproduce the issue, then paste the error log here using a [ code ] tag?
