How can I connect to my wireless internet router using a desktop windows xp?

A. Not broadcasting SSID
In order to use this feature of your wireless router you will need to manually add it to the wireless settings of your laptop.
XP will not automatically find it when viewing available wireless networks. Here are the basic steps to connect your laptop to your wireless router.
1.Click on the START button
2.Click on CONTROL PANEL
3.Click on NETWORK CONNECTIONS (You may need to first select classic view)
4.Right click on your wireless connection and ensure that it is enabled.
5.Select PROPERTIES
6.Click on the WIRELESS NETWORKS tab
7.Click on the ADD button
8.Enter the SSID given to you at the time of install.
9.Network Authorization should be OPEN
10.Data Encryption should be DISABLED
11.Click OK and OK
Wait a couple of minutes for the connection to occur.
You may need to reboot to get XP to log on to your wireless router.
In some cases you will need to clear all the access points from the Preferred Connections list leaving just only the one you added.
B. Require a WEP key.
1.Click on the START button
2.Click on CONTROL PANEL
3.Click on NETWORK CONNECTIONS (You may need to first select classic view)
4.Right click on your wireless connection and ensure that it is enabled.
5.Click on VIEW AVAILABLE CONNECTIONS.
6.Click on the connection displayed usually matching your last name.
7.Click on the CONNECT button.
8.In a few seconds you will be asked to enter a WEP key or Passphrase. Enter the WEP key given to you at the time of install.
This will usually be recorded on your service contract.
9.You will be asked to enter the key again for confirmation.
Wait a couple of minutes for the connection to occur.
