I am really new to Minecraft. I love the exploration and figuring things out. I admit I spend a lot of time in creative mode but recently I have become more adventurous and gone into survival mode. I had been playing on a Realm world that one of friends set up. However, I decided this weekend to start my own world. I was really excited to figure out this weekend how to get oar. I just want to kick myself for thinking I could get stuff from hitting it with a sword. So for anyone newer than me out there. I pickaxe helps a lot. I am really excited to be part of this community and hope to share in the joy of minecraft with all of you.

some really nice site moderator said that to me, and i want to say it back. and do things you enjoy, like maybe post forums or make skins. i got into forums a bit late, and i got into skins at the day i first joined. i remember mining iron ore with hands, making house out of oak wood and birch (NOT PLANKS) and burning myself.

Since you're pretty new to survival, heres some stuff you might want to know:
- Hold your Mine button down to break blocks, dont spam it
- You'll want to create a crafting table, to do this mine a block of wood, it can be any type of wood, and in your inventory use the crafting menu to turn it into planks, then take all of those planks and fill every crafting slot with the planks, that will create the crafting table!
- Make sure you use the Crafting Guide to learn how to craft things, its the green book in your crafting menu
- once you mine some stone with a wooden pickaxe, i highly suggest making stone tools, like a stone sword, stone pickaxe, and stone axe
- Build a shelter! you must make a structure to protect you, if you need a lot of blocks quickly cutting trees with your axe might be the best idea due to 1 log giving you 4 planks in the crafting menu
- Find some food! there will most likely be some animals around you, you can kill them for food, but dont eat it raw! use a Furnace or Campfire to cook the food first!
- You can also get seeds to make a wheat farm! if you break the tallgrass seeds might appear! to use your seeds, craft a hoe with your crafting table and use it near some water to create farmland and plant your seeds into the farmland!
- You can use wheat to breed cows or sheep, you can use the seeds to breed chickens
- Make Torches! You need to make these to prevent monsters from appearing in areas you dont want them to appear in like your shelter! to make a torch take a stick and coal and put the coal above the stick in the crafting menu
- Explore caves! Inside some caves there are resources you will need like coal or iron! if you go deeper you might find gold, redstone, lapis or diamonds!
- Make a bed! A bed will allow you to set your spawn point if you die at any point and it will also allow you to sleep through the night! To make a bed you need 3 wool and 3 planks, you can get wool from either killing sheep or making shears with 2 iron ingots and using the shears on the sheep
