Basically I just got GIMP and was playing around with it because I want to make a sick banner for my new server forums but it has been giving me a headache (literally and figuratively). I can't figure out how to overlay and image into text and then get rid of all the image outside of the text.
I can't post the .xcf file as an attachment so I have provided a mediafire link:

Download Paint.Net. it is sooooooo much easier to use than GIMP.
alright it's tedious work but I kinda figured something out. What I did was use the lasso tool to select only the "C" part of the block. Then, I cut it out and re-pasted it on a different layer. This is then repeated for all the other letters and then TADA! You get the sig. I'll finish it up for you to see what it's like.
So I got the Co. using that technique, but I don't know how you did the shading on the letters. Perhaps you could do that same thing with the rest of the letters. I'll try to get the signature to you.

I too recently started using GIMP. All I could recommend is looking it up on GIMP forums, or if it's really just for a banner, try using a banner maker.
I'll give it a shot and try to explain if I figure it out.

I don't know how too.
