Re-shaping an old OC into a similar, yet different one, you say...?
Hoo boy. I've got an idea, maybe, perhaps, I suppose.
    We'll see.

Well you read the description, that's a good start.

No I'm not bitter. There is no reason for me to be bitter. None at all. *hem hem*

Excited to see what you cook up! If you do cook something up.

I want to try to participate in this jam, but my English grammar is bad. Could this be a serious problem?
    Eloise_Lestrange2025-04-27 01:50:34
If it is noticeably bad you might lose some or a lot of points on the writing segment, I won't lie about that. But there are other areas you can get points, and if you can find someone to proof read for you you might be able to mitigate it?

I'm not going to tell you not to participate, actually far from it, because I'm all for giving things a shot regardless of you know lacking perfection.

Your grammar isn't going to get you disqualified. In other words.

Is there any specific culture that Triandalinous has, like a specific aesthetic? What I mean is it more European style clothing, culture, mythology, and people, or Eastern, or just free for all?

PMC notifications exist to torture me.

It's a free for all. Well. At some point the area had it's own people and isolated culture, but uh these days, it's just filled with everyone's ideas on the world. Made of it's people you could say.

I wanted to figure out something for the character Jam.

While my entry is going to be its own character with its own background, it's actually designed to be a gender selectable protagonist (same idea as Jesse from Minecraft: Story Mode or Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses). As a result, I'm designing both a male and female skins of the same character. I know to only submit one skin into the Jam, so I wanted to see if you had any thoughts on this.
    Escapazition2025-05-13 00:02:04
Saying this for future readers, the female version was cut because of changing lore and to prevent time crunch.
    Escapazition2025-03-27 18:00:00
I think I'll submit the female version just because you don't like Steve arms.

    Both are still coming.
    Eloise_Lestrange2025-03-27 16:52:01
Well I have a moral objection to the steve arms. And a proportions issue. No further detail required.

Think about how their stories might be slightly different because of their gender, if your already implying that one has considerably chunkier arms then the other, then that might imply differences in physical capability. Or maybe there could be sexism of some kind involved in their past, which affects how the character deals with interactions with the world.

I didn't put sexism in the lore, but where is your character from? Would being a boy/girl have placed expectations on them? How did they respond to those expectations, and how did that effect who they are now, and where they are now.

That's the best advice I got right now. I'm gonna go write.
    Escapazition2025-03-27 16:42:32
I almost tagged you in the guest book post to give you a notification.

I was going to have the two different genders release as two separate skins. Not only do they look very different from each other, but they also use two separate skin models (male uses Steve, female uses Alex). They would share the same lore entry, but any gender-specific descriptions would be changed accordingly.

The problem is, I can only submit one, and I don't want to make a gender-neutral third version. My only real idea is uploading both to my profile, but only submitting one for the Jam. Which one I submit, I still don't know.
    Eloise_Lestrange2025-03-27 03:51:14
Why is there not the notifications for this guest book. I feel my job as jam manager is made unnecessarily difficult.

As for my thoughts. I think you should be able to have variants of something in one upload/post/submission, like colour and gender. Because- no actually no, we aren't going to the place of bitter injustice.

But uh my main things for that would be, well are you doing explanatory or story form lore? Because you could do gender neutral pronouns/just never mention the character's gender but that is more difficult then writing normally.

Because English. And 'they' being able to mean more then one person, which makes it very confusing sometimes. I suppose that isn't an issue if you just I dunno, go with the gender of the skin you submit. But I dunno, that's all I got.

Hello! I have a question about the magic on Triandalinous. Why is not that practical to use? Is the world on decadence of energy or it's other lore implication?
    Eloise_Lestrange2025-03-15 05:43:38
Alright, fair warning, I'm still not back from forced hiatus and this is written on a phone which... *shivers in disgust* is not fun.

Okay so for the most part, my general direction with the magic is that it's simply not particularly common and/or difficult to learn. Not like a 1 in a 1000 people sort of deal, but 1 in 30 is about the rate and most won't have very good control/power/potential/traing.

Also the particular reference you are referring to, is more to the fact that battle mages of the kind found in the city- well their powers tend to be destructive. Not something you can just use anywhere in a place so densely populated.

Fireballs are great, accept when your probably going to be surrounded by civilians.

So a lot of battle mages act as powerful forces in attack lines, hunting down monsters, but not so good for guarding a city. And that's not taking into account the fact that a lot of magic users don't have magic that is particularly effective in battle.

About 1 in 5 magic users have enough power to be considered potentially dangerous on their own, and 2 out of 3 of those aren't going to be very good at any offencive magic.

As for the world's energy, it's fine, and there are varied sources, but uh, magic users have never been super common. Learning magic from scratch is possible, but is super difficult, so is acquiring it, and people born with magic are not common.

And all that is ignoring that not all are morally inclined.

Did that answer your question? Maybe? I dunno. I hate writting on a phone. I mentioned that before, but this is really annoying *sigh*
