It's always been the same with Minecraft: Not a lot of social media attention for a while, and then suddenly a big streamer or youtuber starts a series or make a video about Minecraft, and they are followed by several months of streamers and youtubers trying to get aboard the success train. As much as I can criticize it, DreamSMP is one instance when that happen: I believe that before DreamSMP we had a "quiet" period when not a lot of people was making videos and streams about Minecraft, but then all the sudden it exploded and we had a lot of content coming in.
It comes wave per wave, we just have to be patient and eventually someone will make it boom on social medias again!
