Don't sell yourself short; even if you're not ready to start a large-scale project like this, I bet you could definitely pull off something really cool on a smaller scale. If you don't start, you don't finish :)

Actually, if you're interested in some research to see how it might go, RTGame on Youtube did something very similar once or twice. Here's a video showing what happened on his server: here

Some really fun stuff happens in projects like these! Fun to watch :)

Desert - sand

And that's it. I sat and thought about it for a bit, and yeah, deserts are actually the only biome I consider absolutely essential. Some other biomes I get excited when I see them, though:

Extreme Hills - I love these for the views and for building on :) Good for mining, too, since emeralds spawn here, and I don't know, mines just seem to fit in with mountains.
Jungle - cocoa beans, parrots, ocelots (less important now that we have stray cats)
Dark Forest - I love me some dark oak wood :)

This isn't what you're asking, but the biomes I don't really like to see are:

Savannah - ugh. Ugly.
Plains - ugh. Boring.

Yeah, we used to put sand over double-tall flowers and then destroy the flowers, but that trick doesn't work anymore. You might get it to work by using a third-party program to edit a layer of sand in as if it had spawned there, but again, lots of effort, and I don't know if it would work. I know you nixed redstone, but I think your best bet might be setting up pistons holding the sand, to be deactivated by a tripwire or something when your victim steps onto it.

I like the idea a lot!

This may be because I'm new to the site, but would there be a way to make sure only one person has the map at a time? If multiple people download, built, and then reupload the map, right away there's going to be a lot of different versions of the map out there, rather than one consolidated, community-built one. Right?

Seriously though, I like a really eclectic assortment of music, from Broadway, classical, and orchestral (my favorite genres) to even some songs in rap, hip hop, and metal (my least favorite genres). I tend to like songs rather than genres or specific artists, and will buy my music accordingly. :) My genre affiliations seem to be unpopular here though, so... *slink away*

I'm sorry. That really stinks. :( People don't seem to always understand what a big deal pirating and copyright infringement really is, and that really needs to change. I hope you're able to get the stolen textures taken down.

Two words: Vertical. Slabs.

Maybe we could even get CRAZY and make more types of blocks--do I hear RAMPS? I would want ramps to be placeable in multiple directions, so they could be used like stairs or to make diagonals in builds!

You got a desert, too! Nice luck on having a village right next to spawn, though! You got one on me, lol!
