depends on what you're doing. usually I'll use an off-black of a dominant colour in the design so that it feels more cohesive. when you use a completely desaturated grey, it will usually seem to lean towards the complimentary colour of whatever colour it is against, which might make it seem less cohesive
this one that I made uses a dark desaturated green instead of complete black since most of the colours in it are green, and
this one uses a dark grey in the same yellow-ish hue angle as the hair colour-- colour pick it and compare the colours and you'll see what I mean.
don't be afraid to go lighter on the lightest areas when shading. black clothes irl don't look completely black when light hits them. here, there are atleast 4 distinct shades you can make out, and its distinctly a black suit.

when choosing the difference between the darkest and lightest shade in your black, it may be best to have the difference in those shades be about the same level of difference that your other colours darkest and lightest have. colors exist in context. what may appear to represent black on one design won't always appear black on other designs
