Try using Camtasia Studios to record. It's a recording program + an editing software. Either buy it or 30 free trial or even get the cracked full version. It drops FPS by like 5-10. Which is tiny.

Without the beautiful OptiFine I get around 30-50 FPS (Fast and Normal Render). With the lovely OptiFine I get 60-100 (Fast and Far Render).
Sadly my Laptop ain't to good with dem Shaders. I get like 20-30 FPS (Fast and Tiny Render).

I say Camtasia Screen Recorder is the best. Unlike FRAPS it doesn't have a time limit to recording.
Another pro is that it isn't just a screen recorder, it's also an AMAZING simple to use editing software, where you can edit your videos to your liking and upload directly to desired site. Plus, it only drops your FPS by like 10. I play on my Laptop with a "Intel(R) Graphics Family" graphics card. It ain't all that. I normally play at 80-200 FPS depending on the video settings and map/server. And recording it's around 60-160, which is still great.
Although a small con is that it costs $30 NOT $300 (300... you guys are crazy xD), but if you search for a software key on youtube you'll find. That's what I did and it worked. ^^

Hmmmmm... in my opinion the best mod out there is Optifine. Although if we were to discard Optifine, I'd say it's Dr.Zhark's Mo' Creatures, NEI, or (For those with a good graphics card) GLSL Shader's Mod (With Sonic Ether's Shaderpack).
The worst mod... I'd say it's X-Ray Mod (I'm sorry, but it's for f@ggots...) or any Hack Client ModPack.
