10HeartsAdmin: I agree that the amount of time players have available to play games is very different and can easily create unbalanced gameplay, so our "player time" to rank up is based off when they joined, not how many hours they have been on the server.

Drake_Ravine: I don't hate server owners who chose to have donation ranks, some players love spending their money to be "better" and its great that they can get that from servers like some of yours.

Just like some players love creative, pvp, pve, anarchy - there is a server out there for any taste and that's one of the things i love about our community as a whole.

Thank you both for the positive feedback about my vision for the server, it is very nice to hear! Wish you the best of luck with your servers also

Our server is completely without donation ranks. We haven't even set up a way to donate.
We started our server because of our passion for minecraft and creating fun servers, with fair gameplay yet still adding a feel of progression. We were also prepared to pay the cost for it ourselves, so we bought our own dedicated server and which runs great.

We do have several ranks, which all players can get based on their behavior ("Following the rules") on the server and how long they play. Each rank give them some new perks, one example is players who played for two weeks can build their own shop in our market world.

So it is perfectly doable. Advertising will cost us a bit extra, but for now I will keep updating server listings weekly and similar, and will invest in advertisement once my exams are over.

We have been up for two weeks and already we have a small, nice community. Sunday evening we had 12 players online - not a lot but its pretty decent for being a new server without paid ads.
