As a "traditionalist," I don't really like adding "display entities" to builds.
As builders, we've exchanged ideas and accumulated techniques over the years, using various states of blocks and ingenious methods to get as close as possible to what we want to express. Everyone knows the basic methods, but the ways of expression are different. This "subtle feeling of being similar yet different" is, in my opinion, the charm of Minecraft builds.
It's a bit like the "hyper-realistic Minecraft builds" that were popular a few years ago. I know these are the result of people's hard work, but I find it difficult to evaluate their results using the Minecraft framework. However, after trying to evaluate them using a different framework, "made using Minecraft" seems to become a disclaimer; I shouldn't point out problems because someone will argue, "This was made in Minecraft; they've already tried very hard."
My current feeling about "display entities" is that many people use it to excessively pursue "complete consistency" rather than "fitting" the idea, which ultimately undermines this charm of "similar yet different" in Minecraft. If I wanted to excessively pursue "complete consistency," I could simply switch to a different texture pack, use mods, use Blockbench (which is another art evaluation system), or directly model in Rhino. Wouldn't using "display entities" then be considered a kind of "disclaimer"?
Of course, this is just my opinion, and it might be a bit philosophical. I don't object to anyone using "display entities." However, because of this belief of mine, I will not use it myself.
