Black/White, no question. Best storyline, best characters, the only generation to not rely on Kanto for nostalgia n such, just a beautiful environment with ecosystems that make sense and create a perfect gameplay experience. Emerald is a close second but the story and characters are nowhere near as fleshed out, dynamic, and amazing.

I could go on for a lot longer about this but idk why I'm here rn tbh

Gonna be honest, I think part of why the number of entrants is so low is that the theme (at least to me) was kinda difficult and restricting. The reason I was so late on my entry was because I just didn't have anything that really clicked with me for this theme. If I make it to the next round and the theme is better, I'll probably produce a better piece that I'm more proud of. Maybe something a little more on par with what I usually put out.

I mean, it's definitely no animal horror tho

Man, I've got amazing memories with every game from Gen 3 to Gen 6 (Gen 7 was super lame, imo). I think my favorite overall is Black/White. It hit me at the right time in my childhood, and I have the best nostalgic memories discovering the new Pokemon with me only friend at the time, who got me into 'mons in the first place. Yeah, a lot of people hate Gen 5 because of some of the Pokemon designs, tryhard story, and entirely different tone. These things are why I enjoy it, personally. Pokemon felt like a brand new franchise after Gen 5, with the ground-breaking animations, actual story (the only other main series game in the franchise with a satisfying story is X/Y imo), and sped-up gameplay after the super slow Gen 4. These games just feel so good, mechanically, and having real, fleshed-out characters with backstories and motivations and emotions makes Black/White the best overall Pokemon experience, in my opinion. Yeah, it kinda sucks not having a lot of minigames and cool extra features that other regions featured, but I enjoyed the Dream World, and the bit of postgame that came after the main story. Although I don't have the most hours in Black/White, I enjoy doing multiple Randomizer Nuzlockes of the game and just experiencing the story again and again. I learn something new every time. I would say that BW2 was better, because Colress, Hugh, and the PWT, but Plasma's stupid pirate motif brings the game to just below the originals. So yeah, there's my Gen 5 ramble.

((Hey guys, sorry to be a bummer, but I probably won't be active in this for awhile. I'm stressed with other things and am running low on creativity at the moment. Y'all can take the story wherever, don't wait up for me. I might be back at some point if y'all wanna do something then.))

Blueschist rolled his eyes and plucked the note off of its bulb. He turned it around and held it out for Paiyu.

No, Paiyu, this note isn't for Eli, it's for you, dangit. We're leaving tomorrow morning/afternoon/whenever I wake up and rescue Martin. Unless you would wanna do that.

((Well, I'm pretty sure Tsumani has moved on to the other roleplay that him and his brother are doing. Do y'all actually wanna go to Almia or nah))

After about half an hour, Roncho awoke to an intense screeching. Boom Boom Pop did not. "Yep, nope, sleeping just isn't gonna happen tonight. Let's hope that Jeremiah remembers the way." Roncho grumbled, gently pushing BBP off of him. The zonked-out bug hit the ground, but was entirely unphased.

As he stood up, Roncho heard more screeching, this time a little less human-sounding. "Gosh dangit, who lets a Noivern out at night?" The giant dragon bat zoomed by him, also looking for something.

Roncho groaned. "Paiyu, quit sending your Pokémon to come get Eli, she's right here! Blueschist, can you light her path please?" The Lanturn, equally as grumpy as Roncho, growled, smacked its lips, and begrudgingly lit up its beacon. "Alright, you stay here until Paiyu finds Eli. I should probably invite her to Almia... This whole friends this is getting exhausting." Roncho wrote a quick note about inviting Paiyu to Almia and taped it to Blueschist's bulb. Blueschist was not appreciative, but too tired to care.

Roncho then rubbed his eyes and went to go find Martin, who was probably the source of the other screeching. Look, nothing wrong with your face, but when are you gonna hit puberty, bud? Geez, you're squeaking more than a Dedenne.

He approached the edge of the woods and heard an evil cackling.

    "Nope."

Roncho returned to his "camp" and fell on top of BBP. Blueschist sighed, unsurprised.

((Kinda need Tsumani/The Potato Prince to say something... I wish I didn't have such a need for structure smh))

Roncho was prepping his hammock for the night ((since we don't really have any sense of time other than Eli's comment about the three-day-long fight, I'm just gonna take initiative and call it night)) when he noticed Eli following at an awkward distance behind him.

"Hey bud, it was great to meet ya, but I'm hittin' the sack for the night. Might not be a bad idea to do so yourself. You might not be a Golisopod, but first impressions are still important, y'know?" ((it's funny because Golisopod's signature move is First Impression))

Before he could get settled, a shiny Dartrix that he assumed was Paiyu's came zooming by, seemingly desperate to find someone or something. Flufflenutt squealed at it, and, with a mischievous grin, gave the bird a round of applause, sending it spinning in circles around a nearby tree.

"Hey Fluff, cut that out!" The Whimsicott quickly ceased its encore and purred innocently at Roncho. "C'mon, bud, you know better. I don't have a lot of friends, and I don't want to lose the ones I just made!"
Roncho immediately realized his mistake, but it was too late. Flufflenutt began crying wildly and ran off towards the city. Oh come on, Fluff. I just want to get some sleep... You know what I meant.

He scrambled to put his boots back on and ran after his fluffy friend. "FLUFF!" After quickly scanning the route, and hoping that Flufflenutt wouldn't run into the city on her own, he noticed a rustling bush out of the corner of his eye. "FLUFF!" Flufflenutt squealed back at Roncho. When he approached the bush, she had her back to Roncho, but quickly turned around, holding a bouquet of Flabebes. "Whimsi!" She was trying to put on a sweet smile, hoping to win back the love of its trainer.

Roncho smiled, relieved that she wasn't trying to run from him anymore, and picked her up. "Now, I'm sorry about what I said earlier. You guys are my best friends, no matter what. But I do need some human friends, too. Besides, I think they like y'all." He started to give Flufflenutt a hug, then remember the Flabebes. "Hey, you should probably let those go..." Roncho felt a tap on his shoulder. When he turned to look, a massive Florges was standing over him, giving him a menacing maternal glare. "Uh, Fluff, we should probably go..." They began to book it back to the hammock, but before they could get very far, another Florges of equal size blocked their path.

"Boom boom, pop!" Roncho called out to his Scizor to save the day. Boom Boom Pop buzzed excitedly, happy to finally be introduced into the story, and started flying around on his own. "Use Bullet Punch on these Florges!" But it was already too late. BBP had pulled out some shiny swords and was swinging them in the air, lost in his own world. He's not exactly the brightest Lampent in the mansion... Roncho sighed. "Boom boom, berry!" He tossed an Occa Berry, Scizor's favorite, into the hands of the nearest gargantuan Florges. "Catch!" BBP caught the scent of the berry and charged for it, furiously punching the air. His zeal caused him to zoom straight through the Florges, knocking it into the horizon. The ground behind where the fairy once stood was littered with a thousand claw-shaped holes. After finally slowing down, the Scizor returned to Roncho and happily chomped away on its Berry. The Florges that stood behind Roncho, seeing the Scizor return, quickly fled with its offspring into the bushes.

"Well, thanks for your help, bud. We're gonna have to work on that noggin of yours, though." BBP buzzed contentedly, oblivious of his shortcomings. They made their way back to where Roncho had set up his hammock, only to find that it was no longer in the area. "Gosh dangit, not again!" Roncho slumped down against the nearest tree and tried to go to sleep. BBP plopped down beside him, patted him lightly on the shoulder (well, as lightly as a large metal claw would allow; Roncho wore shoulder pads for this reason), and rested his steel head on Roncho.

It had been quite the interesting day. What could tomorrow possibly hold? Would Eli be accepted in Almia? Roncho was too tired to worry about these things right now.

((I'm gonna be honest, I really wish we had a narrative direction for this... We should go somewhere or have a goal of something to do together instead of just conversing and battling.))

"Hey, uh, sorry about that, I kinda zoned out there for a second. You wanna come with me back to Almia?" Roncho has happy to see Eli in a better frame of mind, and felt relieved that she didn't hold anything against him. "I mean, I don't see why they can't give you a shot. You seem to have a cool bond with your Pokemon and others' Pokemon, and we love that as Rangers." I'm not sure how much of a chance she's got, honestly... A lot of the upper management at HQ is kinda prejudiced. Hopefully her Lugia and her experience with the Aether Foundation will help her out. "I'm headed back tomorrow morning, I'm sure Jeremiah could show your Lugia the way."

As soon as he gave Eli the details, Flufflenutt began squealing, alerting Roncho of another new presence. Well, shoot, might as well get acquainted with this guy, too. He seems kinda familiar, and also kinda anxious. Can't blame him, really, with what all's happened today. Is there something on his face?

"Oh, hey Martin ((wait how does Martin know me)), long time no see. Nice Incineroar you've got there, he seems friendly."
Flufflenutt popped out of Roncho's hat and waved to the trainer, and the Incineroar ((is it out? I can't remember)). Roncho picked his hat up off the ground and gave it to Flufflenutt, who promptly put it on backwards. Roncho chuckled, then sighed happily.
"This is Flufflenutt, my head scout and hat remover. She's pretty sweet, until you get to know her. How's your journey going?"

Woo, made some small talk without saying anything about his face. I think it's kinda cool, but I don't know how he feels about it. He seemed nervous talking to Eli and she didn't even say anything.

Alright, so he's Jack and she's Paiyu... They seem nice enough. Gosh, shinies are a dime a dozen around here, aren't they?

As Roncho was preparing to spectate the upcoming fight, Grapes grunted inquisitively to him. "Yeah, that green girl seems nice, even if she is a little... unstable. Thanks again, bud. I think she's got her own struggles with emotions, but on the other end of the spectrum..."

He sighed contentedly and bit into his sandwich.

"I'm glad I'm on this journey with y'all. Being a cold, competition-focused battler isn't any fun. I wanna make memories, y'know? Y'all can come out of your balls and get some fresh air if y'all want, I think things are starting to settle down for a second." The rest of Roncho's team popped out of their Pokeballs, ran around a bit (well, except for Blueschist the Lanturn), and sat down to watch the fight. Roncho knew that it wasn't really proper to have your whole team running around outside of their Pokeballs, but he didn't care. He didn't know what went on inside Pokeballs, and saw his Pokemon as his friends. Why should they have to be contained if I'm able to walk around freely? In the Ranger Regions, they don't even have Pokeballs. That sounds pretty nice.

Ethical dilemmas aside, Roncho was starting to get used to this whole Ranger gig. The freedom just felt so... Nice. I mean, he had to turn in reports now and then, but there wasn't a need to get stronger and better. He could just be himself with his Pokemon.

After playing with the local Snivy, Prometheus flew back to Roncho and perched on his shoulder, chirping happily.

Aaaaand there's a shiny Lugia. That seems about on par for today.

Flufflenutt let out a concerned squeal. This battle between the green thing and the trainer was... Well, let's just say that the 'mons on this route won't be coming out of hiding for awhile.

"It's alright, girl, Blueschist can take him if it comes down to it. But let's try to avoid that, shall we?" Flufflenutt pulled Roncho's cap down tighter over his head and returned to surveying the area. After the fight, the scientist, who introduced themselves as Eli, came up to Roncho and just kinda crumpled to the ground, making a weak attempt to not cry. It muttered something about his Capture Styler and a horrible experiment and whatnot... His Ace Trainer parents had only taught him how to battle, not how to understand emotions or any of that junk. Normally, Roncho would've had Grapes give them a hug (His Hitmonlee was strangely good at hugging) and then move on with his life, but this kid had a Lugia. It might not hurt to have them on his side, and they might make inspections more interesting.

"Hey, kid, what makes you think that your dreams are unobtainable? I mean, yeah, we've got rigorous fitness tests and the Staraptors at Almia HQ might think you're a snack, but hey, you can find your place. I mean, from the sounds of things, you already have with the Aether Foundation ((So are we in Alola or what? This whole lack of location business is bothering me slightly.)). Science like that seems cool, and the pay sounds nice, but I like getting my hands dirty with my Pokemon a bit too much. So what are you worried about? Sometimes the dreams we stumble into are better than the ones we have as children."

Roncho reached out and tried to pull the limp professor to her feet, with minimal success. "C'mon, bud, you can't linger on the past. Hey Grapes, could you do your moral support thingy? I'm running low on empathy." Grapes popped out of his Pokeball and forcefully picked up the professor ((I hope this isn't metagaming too much)), giving her a delicate and warm hug in the process.

"Alright, great work, Grapes. Hey, if you don't mind, wake Jeremiah up for me, will ya? We're probably gonna get ready to head out soon, unless anything else could possibly happen today." Grapes gave him a soft nudge. "Oh, right, the other trainers... Guess I should say hi to them, too."
