The i5 and i7 have similar performances whilst gaming. As you said, it will only have more benefits for recording and rendering things.

Maybe the extra money could be used for a 1440p monitor or possibly a higher storage SSD, or even just saved.

    Sorry.

Because you misinterpret what we are saying by using his displayed budget.

You need a powerful CPU to run Minecraft with a good FPS rate. Its a CPU bound game and so even if you had an 980ti with a core2duo you'd be limited.

Basically for what he wants to do he needs an i5 and a gtx960 or better graphics card with 8gb of RAM.

No, you don't need a powerful CPU to run Minecraft. Source: I have no issue running Minecraft with a Pentium G3258 and GTX 660 Ti at well over 150 FPS with background programs running. I also had no issue running Minecraft with a Core 2 Duo E8600 and GTX 750 Ti at over 100 FPS.

    Check out this video:

    [yt]obhvrbCzbHQ[/yt]

An i5 is complete overkill for Minecraft unless OP plans to stream or record, and so is a GTX 960 unless he wants to run high-quality shader packs.

You seem to be contradicting yourself as well. You say that Minecraft relies heavily on single-core performance, yet say a 2-core CPU will not run it as well as a 4-core CPU.

Daniel WestonIt would run similar to the I7 listed above as Minecraft doesn't actually take advantage of hyperthreading at the moment (it is heavily single core based).

    1. The core2duo does not have a strong single core performance. See number 3.

    2. The Pentium displayed there is at 4.2GHz. Factor in a decent motherboard for overclocking and a cooler then you may as well just buy an i5 and a cheap motherboard. Also from what I can gather, the OP does not intend to overclock and so would therefore make it redundant.

    3. A core2duo would not run Minecraft at over 100 fps on realistically good settings. Take a look at this (yes he may be recording but its stated in the comments he gets 25-35 fps. Say he gets even 3x as much FPS whilst still not recording, thats only 75-90, not 100+ as you mentioned). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCq96OA1OJA

    4. Minecraft IS single core bound. You specified the 150fps with background programs? OP clearly states that he wants to use shaders, and that 150fps you mentioned would most definitely not be with shaders.

    5. There is a difference between running Minecraft, and having an enhanced experience. If you wish to play on 10 chunks, no shaders at 100+ fps, by all means go ahead. But he has a $1200 budget. Why not create him a PC better, more future proof and will have the additional functionality of other games (if he requires to play others too or even play modpacks?).

    6. Take a look at this too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BA5ebolZBr4
    Thats not 60fps+.
Heck that even ain't 60fps constant. Its around 45-55fps. Factor in multiplayer and that fps could go down even further.

Thank you for responding though. I'm sorry if this felt like I was attacking you, but thats not what I intended.

    8. How long have you been playing Minecraft?: I have played Minecraft ever since 2012.
    9. Were you in another group? If so, why did you leave?: I don't understand what is meant by this question but if I had to write an answer... I have played on other SMP servers but it just wasn't a vanilla community (if that makes sense?). People would steal, and just in general it was rather boring because nobody would barely talk to one another, or even help each other out for that matter.
    10. Why Psychotic Cynics?: I wish to join the community as I'm looking to follow my vast interest in vanilla Minecraft whilst playing an active role within a collaborative, well established group of people. I want to apply my own knowledge to the server and also enhance it whilst learning from different people along the way!
    11. Time deduction, do you have a job?: I currently complete full time studies in college and may be getting a job soon, but I will still have time to play an avid role on the server.
12: Are you okay with your username being online?: I am perfectly fine with that.

    [*] 1TB Hard Drive (Seagate I think?)
    [*] CX750M Power Supply

Thank you for taking the time to read through this application and have a spectacular day!

CaptainMuricaMinecraft doesn't require a powerful CPU to run, so you could easily get away with a modern Pentium, Athlon II x4, or Core i3. For graphics, you'll want at least a GTX 950 to get 60 FPS at 1080p with good shader packs. I own a 750 Ti and it can only hit 60 FPS with medium-quality shader packs, like SEUS Standard and KUDA Medium.

CarbonMCI don't know much about computers either, but the only thing I can say is the Memory (RAM) is really important as well! Good luck with your computer!

As long as you have enough RAM (8GB is standard these days), you don't need to worry about it.

You need a powerful CPU to run Minecraft with a good FPS rate. Its a CPU bound game and so even if you had an 980ti with a core2duo you'd be limited.

The one which I created was this (if you were to need a monitor):
    http://pcpartpicker.com/p/8Dsb4D

It would run similar to the I7 listed above as Minecraft doesn't actually take advantage of hyperthreading at the moment (it is heavily single core based).

If you don't need a monitor, that could free up some money as American prices are usually the cheapest; or even better you could add an SSD and upgrade the motherboard to one that has a few more features.

Hey! How much are you looking to spend on your build? Maybe I could piece together something for you and some other people could verify anything I put in there? thanks!

Hey! Here is my application for the server. Thank you for reading!

    1) DannyWeston
    2) I am sixteen years old.
    3) I have only been banned from one server for advertising several months ago.
    4) I am active as often as possible after school hours and as often as needed on the weekends (i.e I am home from school at 4:30 PM GMT onwards).
    5) I don't currently have a YouTube channel, but I do plan to create one sometime, I'm just debating whether I will have the patience to do so.
    6) I wish to join this server because I am looking for a community to play an active role in; it would be nice to have the benefit of other players around me whilst maintaining a strict plan (or approach) to my means of survival. Or in other words, it'd be nice to meet new people whilst placing my positive input into the server myself.
    7) My most distinguishable talents would be building, redstone and responsibility! Of course the third one is very biased but I guess that is what I'd see myself as?

Thank you for taking the time to read my application, and have a lovely day!

What is the PC being used for? Because if just gaming then I would get a GTX 770 and an I5 4690 instead of I7 4770 + GTX 760.
