What I mean by customers is this. We, as server owners spend the majority of time doing things to make players come into our server, or making current players stay. In many ways this is like a restaurant, you are responsible for putting the adverts out in newspapers to to bring people in as well as serving a good menu to ensure that they return. While you may not directly cook the food, you are responsible for the staff and what is on the menu. I would call these people customers regardless of whether they pay ( or donate in the case of a server) but that may just be me. I'm generally friends with my server too, but many staff fall into the trap of banning people for relitivly minor things (without realising all their friends will also leave) because they do not value the player as much as themselves, this is why I use the customer analogy

Haha Im a server owner and these are my opinions:

In my experice I do not get to play on my server as much as I want. this is because of the unbelivable amount of work that making renders, youtube videos, fixing/installing new plugins all take.

and about the "no op thing" equal does, in my opinion, work!

creating many different ranks in, in my experience what causes problems. nearly everyone craves power over others and when given that power, they often use it. In my server, though people have different ranks and therefore different jobs to do (e.g admins, builders, mods) they are not inherently "higher up" than anyone else and have all the perms that they need to do their jobs. this needs to be made clear to all of the staff members in my opinion.

Many people who are new server owners fall into a lot of traps (ik i did) such as making people staff too early or making people builders when they do not have enough skill, however it takes time and most people can get it after a while if they stick at it. Also, a lot of people have potential (especially when concerning builders) that I think are simply ignored because they are not good enough YET. I usually spend time with staff like that, getting them adjusted to the servers building style, all of the commands etc. This is where a lot of my time is usually spent. Also if you do not have the skill in that area, get another one of your staff who does to help that person, shame to see wasted talent.

Also my main worry with some server owners is that they loose sight that it is the players who are you "customers" in a way. How do you hope to get a lot of players on if they do not have fun or you ban them for minor reasons (its often worth telling staff not to perm ban unless they are a danger to the server) because of the after effects. If you ban one player, his/her friends may also leave and the moral of everyone on the server may be affected (this is also true if you demote many staff members).

    Just some of my opinions

I have never heard that problem, From what i have heard, Lucid dreaming can actually often treat sleep problems such as nightmares or night terrors (as if you can train yourself to know you are sleeping, it can often be less scary and helps you stop). But using it to help with minecraft, Ive never heard that one xD

Anyway there are a lot of sites out there now to tell you about it, ever since inception came out lol ;D

You could change your block palette, perhaps use lighter colours or add different blocks in occasionally to force yourself out of your previous style.
The other option is to force yourself to change the shape and depth of everything from the wall designs to the overall shape of building.

I always like to build things from movies as it always helps. Building the white Minas Tirith followed by a stone building such as hogwarts (which in itself has different styles e.g the quidditch pitch) for example can really broaden the range of buildings that you can do quite quickly.
This is because often movie subject is quite hard in minecraft. Minas tirith is almost entirly white for example which looks good in the movies but challenges you to find better ways to create contrast. Likewise Hogwarts uses mainly variants on stone (or sandstone depending on your choice) which strips down the general wood-stone style of almost everyone. It can really help broaden your style.

"Mos Eisley spaceport. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy."

"I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced."

    "That's no moon. It's a space station"

everything Obi Wan says is awesome
