What the best thing to do is turn it around, shy? start talking to people, although they may not want you to talk to them and rebuff you keep trying, by talking more and more you build up your confidence. If you are picked on for liking something, e.g. science, then turn it into something succesful, try your hardest in your subjects and the thing that keeps me going when I get picked on, the jerks who keep laughing at you, picking on you etc are probably the ones that are going to fail in life. Just imagine those people working at a fast food place while your at university. I find it hilarious and it keeps me going
