By some wonder I actually bothered to read all comments...
This reminded me about an Article(Interview) I have read a while ago,
Mojang won't make Minecraft 2 and neither kill of the Java version. They have theyr reasons and when reading the Article I mostly agree with it, I perhaps don't have the link atm.
As some people stated, making "a sequel" is like killing the game, even Mojang is aware of that and there some examples of games which simply died out
because of the sequel. (no matter how good it might be)
To make a proper sequel also, it needs far more as the features which you sayd, else as others stated, anything like that could be packed into one or more Updates.
Infinity is infinite, you can't have 2 infinities else it's a Paradox(?), cause one is already ALL and infine.
Minecraft is a Sandbox game, without doubt one of the best on the world, if not the best (idk).
The best part of it is that it adds almost infinite possibilities for blocky creativity and adventures.
If you would have some understanding of programming, you would realize that a sequel named "Minecraft 2", is simply put,
impossible.
2 is a version number, Minecraft 2 would be nothing more then a new
Update of Minecraft (Java edition).
If it would be written in C++, it couldn't be called for obvious programming reasons Minecraft 2, it would be called <gamename> v.1, v.0.3-beta, whatever.
As you could have noticed, the Minecraft versions for other platforms which are written in other programming languages are called "Edition", not gonna expand on that topic cause else this post get's too long.
Also don't compare Minecraft with games with a proper storyline, those for obvious reasons, like books, have theyr
part numbers, but those aren't version numbers.
C++ is faster and better to make Minecraft great again? huh, even an Modding API?!
There the lack of at least a bit of knowledge about the programming language leads you to another large fail.
- C++ as of my knowledge compared to Java, isn't as simple to mod, unless there is an API and API's limited to by Mojangs logic... hell, don't wanna think about.
Comparably, in java you can decompile most of the code, and which enough knowledge, you could be able TO EDIT ANY part of the game. - I myself had no clue about java nor any much about programming when I started making mods, in the time while making them I learned a lot and actually thanks to Minecraft I gained skills which could be used for a proper job.
Now Imagine that that process took around a year till I actually knew programming, also what I actually properly do in the language's logic.
You think I would want now to learn a new language to make mods with a limited API in C++? Nevah.
Look, I'd rather switch to one of those dozens of new Sandbox games if I already gotta learn something new, saw all those amazing voxel games which customisable vehicles? 0_0
Mojang is well aware of this issue as far I know.
There are a lot of modders/ which might agree in this. - As people stated, updates take some months, or even a whole year, while here you are talking about how it would bring a new hype if they made a sequel. Thinking more advancedly about the process, a game written from scratch may even take a few years till being in a publish-able state (just look at other games). In that time if they don't update the old game cause anyone is hyped for the new one, the Community might aswel die out or just switch to other games.
- "Modding API", you sure people are in such a desperation to get it? I actually fear a bit the fact if Minecraft would get a "proper" api in the style as Mojang always does it. (totally, no offence intended).
Wonder why? ohh.... the Internet would get even more full-spammed with very low quality Mods of kids which wanna get popular, we have more then enough already now.
Forge is actually a quite nice project, it has an API, Library and some Utils which make modding a lot easier then it was in the past.
You can do pretty much anything, your only limit is your creativity, knowledge and available time.
Also due to Forge, installing mods has gotten as easy as never before, I remember times when we had manually to insert class files into the minecraft.jar and all the other stuff, server/client-only packages and so on.
Today we just need to get the automated forge installer, put the mods into the mods folder, and have fun! (or whatever) - Some of those "ideas" you sayd that aren't yet im mods aren't really true.. I mean,
seasons - saw at least 2 mods with such a feature
different cave types - saw how many amazing generator mods to exists? And imagine they actually don't add anything into the base game, which kind of makes the whole thing Vanilla. (also mushroom caves are non-sense , except you mean such myzel stuff)
damn I forgot the rest... - Youtube! Look, I never really cared about.
In conclusion, I have no clue why I bothered to read this all nor why I answer to this.
(beware of typo's!)I have already quite a collection of voxel-like games which offer more advanced and fancy and cool features, I have games which give more entertainment, yet I still stick with Minecraft cause it has something other games do not.
It is infinite, I can modify it, it is
my game,
my worlds. An universe we created for ourselves and the friends we gained online, something we can share or keep for ourself.
A sequel could cause an instability, uncertainty if the game is really still something for me, us. Simply falling then into the void of discouragement, this happened to a lot of projects I was in and I know the feeling pretty well, we never returned to those projects and they fell into the oblivion. (blame google if I wrote this one wrong.)
and...
I guess I had too much chocolate/sugar today.Edit: this gotten actually pretty long x.x
Edit2: this was edited to fix typo's multiple times, sorry in case the text got weird in a few places. if any found.
