typically 200-210 on modrinth with a few basic performance mods (e.g. sodium, sodium extras) on 1.20.4
before my ram upgrade i used to get 100ish with basic performance mods
(right after i got my ram upgrade i used to get 500? idk where those 300 extra frames went)

I honestly think merging java and bedrock wouldnt be a bad idea, it would unify the playerbase more and (probably??) make development easier, making updates a bit more common. but the uniqueness of either version does make minecraft more interesting + lots a controversy (like any other big update).

both are pretty important if you think about it,
space: more resources/area (like amateurpainter32 said), plus looking out for possible threats like asteroids (maybe aliens too??)
ocean: discovering more unique animals can help inspire new technology (theres some weird ass animals in the water)
chose space tho since thats what came to mind first
