Also, being in a village can be a huge kickstart, but DO NOT kill a pillager captain. Raids can and will kill you, so until you have heavy fortifications, iron armor (at minimum), and a good weapon, stay away from captains.
Your most important tool will be a water bucket. Get good at MLGs in a test world (if you're not already) and keep the water in your hotbar at all times.
