A member rank, a few donor ranks (if you like), mod rank and owner.

Make sure mods have no perms they could abuse besides ban, kick.

And rule the server with an iron first, make rules and have them follow them.

If a rule is don't ask for items make sure they never get any, whining for OP = ban etc

Usa Vanilla there won't be a 1.8 not even by Dinnerbone since Mojang doesn't own the code and can't release it.

There are more options than that really.

Another would be for Mojang to sign all rights to Bukkit away to the highest ranking Bukkit official that way Bukkit would be an open project (not owned by Mojang) and wolf might stop with his DMCA since he did it because he doesn't want Mojang using his code that he made for free.

Maybe even the above and offering some pratical help to Bukkit too to take some of the burden off them.

That would be a positive step forward for everyone.

Sorry to say this but there will not be any 1.8 CraftBukkit or Spigot server software at least for now and most probably never.

There is a DMCA issued against Bukkit (Mojang owned) and Spigot and this DMCA was issued by an EX-Bukkit Dev to stop them both using his code, neither project can use his code until Mojang via Bukkit agrees to make it's Minecraft server open source.

Mojang stated they will not and the only alternative is to kill Bukkit, the latter is most likely the case, which in turns kills Spigot since Spigot is based on CraftBukkit.

The best you can get is a 1.8 protocol hacked version of Spigot and on that version we will all stay until there is a new version of a Bukkit project which will take many months to output anything that could be called a server.

I understand how Wolfe was able to DMCA craftbukkit.
Should probably edit your paragraph there, I found some grammar mistakes and one sentence that didn't make any sense. (Wolf released code under GPL which means the minecraft server from mojang must be provided)


Here are some tips so you can understand the situation:

Read why the staff left, they give full explanations
Learn the circumstances of what happened and see how they fit in.
Read the DMCA act claim by wolf.

If you want links I can give you them, although with so many Bukkit staff leaving I might miss a post or two.

Who's fault is it then?

Did Bukkit staff just decided to do a mass quit to go on a world tour? They were bored? They just wanted to end all server software for no reason?

I'd like to hear your views...

And Mojang owned Bukkit secretly for 2 years and were distributing that said code, so smoke that.

As for the person that said Evil left because he's tired etc try reading the staff's post at bukkit as to why they started leaving.

First it was initially the EULA as well as we are "tired", then it morphed directly into "we didn't know Mojang owned us" "#$^7 mojang" - Basically.

Anyway there won't be any new server software for a while nor 1.8 unless you like plain old boring minecraft.

Also I don't think you understand the DMCA it's like this:

Well it's because of this EULA stuff started to happen at Bukkit.

The lead at Bukkit was aware of the EULA and felt it unsafe to continue the project, Mojang stepped in thinking they could save Bukkit revealing their hidden ownership yet even they couldn't keep Bukkit going and more Bukkit staff left and some even DCMA'ed their own code to stop Mojang stealing their project.

Spigot also got DCMA'ed, so now there won't be any 1.8 MC servers besides Vanilla. And the future for severs look bleak. Theres a restrictive EULA,and no server software that will be updated for a long long time.

Rubbish.

They own Bukkit and release Bukkit under a license this license http://dev.bukkit.org/licenses/7-gnu-ge ... n-3-gplv3/

Then violate that license by not including what wolf outlines in his/her DMCA.

It's pretty simple to understand.

Even the report a server form says something like "if you don't provide a contact email for the server owner we may not be able to do anything" - Lol

It's fair to contact the server owner first before you screw the joining system.


Then why do they say; what I said above then?

I wouldn't worry about EULA anyway since Bukkit/Spigot have been DMCA'd it's unlikely if any server software will be available besides vanilla.

Mojang is literally killing the PC version.

As for EULA enforcement there isn't any and I'll tell you why; Mojang would of targetted the biggest rip off servers and these servers would of announced that Mojang contacted them. It's as simple as that.

The Eula changed a lot, I doubt you even read the first one to make such a statement.

Even accepting your point which is "you weren't allowed to make money|now you can" disproves your point.

And still the Eula is not being enforced, it's in place. Enforced means you actually take action to force change.

That is what happens when Mojang does secret deals and then tries to enforce an EULA in a unprofessional manner.

Looks like that guy owned Mojang for now lets see what they do.

Actually they are not enforcing the EULA they merely changed it and claimed they would enforce it.

There are still servers selling whatever they like and Mojang knows about it, they recieved 200 reports when at the time their report page stopped working and now it' back up and we are 33 days into the new EULA and so far there are no C&D's and no lawsuits.

Maybe it's a bit early to tell but by the looks of it nothing is changing.

Mojang changing the Eula has nothing to do with all the excuses that they put out such as:

Children stealing Credit cards.
P2W.
Some idiot asking in the office if selling items is permitted.

They are just fake anecdotes to justify the new eula that they wanted to clarify, strengthen and they did so for purely corporate reasons and to better aid their business
