Lol, going to chime in here. I've got 2 kids of my own, so old :).
A LOT of school is a waste of time. The problem is you don't KNOW what you'll need later on until you get there, so you have to hit a lot of things, while your mind is the most malleable and able to learn, so you have a foundation to build on, plus getting exposed to many different things you may not even know are out there, and find that thing that really sparks you.
The other thing is the outside force making you do things you may find more challenging or not interesting that you need, but don't really want to motivate yourself to do. If you are intrinsically motivated to do them, that's GREAT, wish I was... the world will be much more available to you to find your bliss.
anyway that's my 2 bits. If you can find a way to do the things that are less interesting but of value, and can get the right kind of help to help you learn when you need it, school is mostly a waste of time. Get the most you can out of online schooling, dedicate yourself to diving deep into topics that are of interest, and keep learning new things.
