plot twist: i've never actually watched earthspark. it's been on my watch-list for a while -- i def need to rectify that.

i had fun making this one (: finding good refs of him was such a pain tho... i eneded up having to watch some clips to get some different angles on him. it's moved earthspark up my watchlist, anyways!

elita one has been on my personal list for a while -- i def need to get to her. i'll add swindle as well; he's my fav combaticon (though vortex does hold a special place in my heart...)

megatron in all his glory.. decided to go with his idw depiction for this; it's definitely my fave interpretation of his character. such a wonderfully balanced design!!

thanks for suggesting! i'll look into getting soundwave done some other time.

took a bit to get to him, but here he is!

i experimented a bit with the hat layer to add some crisp(er) lines to his edges to emulate his animated appearance... i rather like how the effect turned out!

lol, glad to hear. i also completely agree w/ you on the shading front -- whenever i see complex shading i struggle to define shapes. don't get me wrong, it can be very pretty, but it becomes a readability issue for folks with eyes like me!

'busy' is a rather popular style on here, and it can be difficult to find good skins outside of that... i think you're filling that niche perfectly!

thank you!! starscream is a fave of mine, and i utterly adore his tf animated interpretation... i'll put him on the list! it'll prob be a bit -- i'm currently in a very busy part of the year -- but i'm determined to make it happen.

i really gotta update this thread as well... thanks for suggesting!

edit: i didn't realize that you were the person making those awesome teen titans skins! you're style is very unique -- i adore your hard shading and limited palette.

you make a decent point abt the current enforcement of rules -- i still see plenty of content n skins that get reported and no action is taken against it [first exhibit: look at banners and sort by "best", and go to the second page]. it honestly makes me worried how staff are going to go around enforcing this rule, too. rules are only as good as the folks that enforce them, so i'm led to believe.

as for your argument about ai, i'm gonna have to respectfully disagree. "slop" is a bit of a "stop thinking and turn your brain off" term -- its meaning is wide, ultimately subjective, but the context is derogatory. it's difficult to slap a solid definition on for those reasons, but there are a few factors that tie in regardless of subjectivity or opinion. in the discussion of ai art, "slop" doesn't just refer to the quality of the piece (although by far the quality is, largely, poor) but also the means of which it was created.

i consider myself a creative. for a lot of artists, myself included, the best part of art is the creation process itself -- the end product is ultimately the goal, don't get me wrong, but it's the experimentation and work that went into it that makes it enjoyable. a bit like a puzzle. the use ai almost completely skips this process. the only experimentation involved was tweaking a few words on a 20-word prompt. the act of creating has been put almost solely into the hands of an unthinking machine, and for a lot of people -- again, myself included -- it removes the meaning of art in the first place. how am i supposed to look at a piece -- or music, in this case -- and find any joy in it knowing that the creator couldnt be damned to make it the first place with their hands? it showcases a lack of care for the craft in the first place.

bit of a long post, lol. ive enjoyed reading your other comments on this thread. it's a very different perspective from myself, and some ways i can understand it. i hope you can get an idea of my perspective -- and a lot of other folks' on this thread -- too.

pmc already has rules for that sorta stuff already in place; ie no color blobs or spam content

obv the definition of "slop," as it pertains to human work, is subjective

    something a lil different today...

    an oc!!

i was inspired to completely revamp an old character of mine, and i'm v happy with how he turned out. i even made some art to figure out his design, and i can definitely say my robot-making skills have drastically improved since the last time i drew a transformer. so many shapes...

    say hi to scotch!

you got a pretty good start there! i'm not too familiar with hive style, but from what i've seen i'd say you're pretty close to mimicking their shading style. here are a couple pointers that'll hopefully help you out:

it looks like you are exclusively using shades for the darker parts of the skin; essentially just adding black for the shadows. this can make a skin (or any piece of art, really) look flat and desaturated.

i went ahead and recreated part of your skin in my skin editor of choice, blockbench:

and here are some edits i made, both using the same base yellow color:

these look a lot more colorful and fun! now: what exactly did i do? for the left one, i made my shading warm by going towards the right of color wheel and slightly lowered the value and increased the saturation as i went. similar process with the right one, except i went towards the left of the color wheel. yellow is a bit of an oddball to shade -- yellow's going to be the lightest color on your color wheel, and if blue is your darkest, you can really go any direction to get some decent shadows.

this all falls in line with color theory. i don't have the time to come up with a full guide right now, but if you're interested in uping your color game i'd recommend looking up some tutorials on youtube. hopes this helps in some regards, at least in terms of what to research next!
