I was thinking exactly this, after watching exactly that. Unfortunately I don't have the resources to set up a server, but I have a few suggestions on what could make it more Battle Royale-y
1. Have maps that are either islands, floating islands or bounded in some way (ie. by a bedrock wall) with different biomes to theme. This makes sure people don't leave the game arena without being too artificial.
2. Random spawning. From what I saw it looks like Dave and gang tried to implement this, but couldn't get it to work. This would be very helpful in setting up at the beginning, rather than just a random walk from the spawn.
3. Many of the things DaveChaos' groups used are ideal - health regen off, health stats available to all, damage broadcast to all. Are there more mods which could make the game more Batttle Royale? (This is somewhat open-ended)
And yeah, tourneys would be great for this. Seriously, this will be seriously popular as soon as someone sets it up; especially so if you film it as Dave's lot did (everyone's POV on their channel). I can imagine ppl casting it even. Oh man so exciting.
