Thanks for all the replies as of now! I'm gonna include my specs to add to the survey. My system was a budget build and Basically all I did was buy a Dell optiplex 755 with windows 7 for $100 then went and shoved the top tier GTX 750ti in there for an extra $120.
Software/Hardware
Operating system: Windows 10, 64 bit
CPU(Speed and cores): Intel core 2 duo 3.00Ghz (pretty much my weakest point)
For the edges try turning your anti aliasing up, which can be done with optifine or in some graphics card settings. For flickering try turning on Vsync, but its probably not monitor related anyways.
I would try watching some tutorials on nether portal textures to see if there is anything you're forgetting.
Usually with laptops in general you cannot upgrade the CPU, GPU or motherboard, but pretty much anything else like the HDD/SSD, RAM, Cooling fan and posibly WIFI are upgradable depending on the manufacturer.
Some HDD's can be replaced with an SSD for improved performance if they have the same connector.
If I were you I would do some research on your specific laptop and maybe even pop the case just to see how everything is set up in your laptop to see what parts are upgradable.
Look into the PNY XLR8 GTX 750 TI, Runs modern titles at 60fps up to medium settings. I got my factory overclocked version (1281MHz) with 2 gigs of GDDR5 off amazon for $128USD It has great specs for such a small and cheap graphics card and will work with pretty much any motherboard with a PCIE slot. Also thanks the the Maxwell architecture its power usage is amazingly energy efficient.
Games I play and FPS: Minecraft with (all optifine settings maxed) shaders: 30-50fps (playable) Rocket league MAX settings: 60fps+ Planetside2 High settings: 60fps+ Project Cars Minimum settings: 50-60fps (I believe I'm limited by my ram speed there though)
I do realize this is an Nvidia card but hey I'm pretty AMD oriented as well, this was the best bang i could get for my buck when I bought it.
