I've used a lot of programs over the years, Now this is very specific to what I do and may vary in results comparing to what you use it for.
And I'll make this clear, you are NOT going to get anywhere with freeware. If you want quality, Either pay up or torrent (At your own risk).
1: Fraps: Probably the quality standard of recording programs, and the best in my opinion. It has a modest price tag, However. Since it's so popular. Torrents are bound to be everywhere.
Pros: High quality footage with a nice array of options for recording,
Can record audio from the software (Not recommended because it's not good quality)
Cons: It consumes ALOT of GB. So make sure you have a sizable hard-drive before using. Also, Delete RAW footage that you don't use as it stores up over time.
Audio quality is rather bad, Recommended that you use Audacity (Freeware) While using Fraps for optimal quality.
EZvid- Probably one of the lower standards, And not recommended whatsoever.
Camtasia- I can't say much, Since I don't use it. All I know it has a modest price tag. And has good quality and smaller files unlike FRAPS. (Has it's own decent Video Editor!)
Hypercam- I use hypercam for screen recording, (Tutorials, Speedart, Etc.) Not fit for gaming.
Camstudio- Probably the best option for free recording, However. It will be choppy so make sure you use it properly with different resolutions!
I hope this stupid list helps! ^^ Best of luck.
