Look, I know that pmc “isn’t the place” or whatever, but it’s the only “social media” I have to talk about this.

These Black Lives Matter protests have been happening for about a week now, but I haven’t really many people here talk about them. So I thought I’d make sure everyone gets a reminder to help.

I don’t know if I’m allowed to post links, so I’ll say this: donate and/or sign petitions if you’re able—just google “places to donate black lives matter”. If not, and even if you are able, educate yourself on everything that’s going on; Black Lives Matter, white privilege, systemic racism, etc.

My part of the world is books, specifically YA, so here are some books by black female authors that I recommend:

    1. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas - Starr struggles for justice after the murder of her childhood best friend at the hands of a police officer.
    2. On The Come Up by Angie Thomas - Bri follows her dream of becoming a rapper in order to save her family from homelessness.
    3. Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi - Zélie finds herself with one chance to bring back magic and strike against the monarchy, bringing back hope to her people.
    4. The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon - David challenges Natasha to an experiment: can someone fall in love in one day?
    5. A Song of Wraiths and Ruin by Roseanne A. Brown - “a grieving crown princess and desperate refugee find themselves on a collision course to murder each other, despite their growing attraction.”
    6. You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson - Liz runs for prom queen in order to get a scholarship, and starts to fall for her competition.
    7. A Song Below Water by Bethany C. Morrow - sirens living in Portland have to hide their powers, but their world is rocked when a fashion icon reveals herself to be a siren, and no secrets are safe anymore.

If any of these books intrigue you, please consider buying one and supporting black authors!

I get that posts like this can start controversy, but if we‘re celebrating pride month, then we should acknowledge the protests, too. I’m leaving the comments on. I hope we don’t have to fight about this, but I couldn’t just be silent, and I wanted to say something.

Be careful, and be safe. Pride Fall is now a thing, and it may be disbanded but there are bound to be people - no, they're not people - sending disgusting images and videos to LGBTQ+ accounts.

They are targeting small accounts first, like on Twitter and Instagram. Don't read messages from people you do not know. If you can, lock down your account.

    Be safe.

i just wanna say if it isn’t essential or if you’re not working(this is mainly directed at any fellow americans i don’t know too much about other countries situations)

    STAY HOME.

thank you to all of those who are working in this insane time and risking your health to do so, but anyone else who is going out to hang out with friends or just leaving the house for no reason, frick u.

even if the virus is “clearing up” or whatever u think if it is clearing up which i don’t think it’s even peaked in the us yet if we all stop social distancing because it calms down it’ll all start back up, wait till it’s all clear otherwise we may have to deal with this issue for the rest of the year and that’d really suck

and to those leaving the house thinking they don’t care bc it won’t affect them because they’re young

frick you too you’re making the situation worse for everyone especially those with pre existing medical conditions you’re risking others lives by going out

and a final frick you to anyone spreading false propaganda about it, i know people who have pre existing conditions which contracting the virus could be fatal to them but they don’t believe it exists because they think it’s liberal propaganda.

and to anyone social distancing or working in this horrible time, thank you it may be rough but we will make it through this, that is all i have to say i need to sleep it’s too late but i had an urge to say this

ok serious advice time from grandpa moron

Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with warm water and soap after activities. Not only will this help prevent illness(especially if you touch your face often), it'll just help your hygiene and overall make you a cleaner person.

If you're not in total lock down, avoid going anywhere unless absolutely necessary. People who are sick still go out in public, whether or not they have symptoms. Take the person in San Antonio, TX who had symptoms of an illness but still went out to eat and other activities. If you contract it and are otherwise healthy and young, PLEASE do not go out still. You may pass it on to someone who is immunocompromised or elderly.

Try to avoid touching your face. I know that this isn't easy for most of us, having anxiety, or being neurodivergent. But we gotta try. I'm extremely guilty of this, I caught myself rubbing my chin while typing this.

If you can, try to stay at least 6 feet/around 2 meters away from other people.

Above all, be safe and don't hoard things from the grocery store because in most cases, you absolutely do not need it. This isn't a water crisis or a toilet paper crisis. There are single-income families with young children who are losing access to necessities because of the panic.

Think of a list of things to do while in self-isolation! Clean, begin a new hobby, play Minecraft, start a new TV show!

And finally, listen to what the CDC tells you to do. Find their page on COVID-19 here.

and now back to our scheduled program of skins and bad jokes
