AzieOh man, I would play ab 18+ whitelisted semi-vanilla server so hard. I'd prefer there be no /tpa since travel via the nether is so cool. Sethome is almost necessary though. Otherwise everyone ends up living super close to spawn and no one travels and then you've got people who lose their houses. Maybe if the /home command had a longer cool-down timer, like 10 or 15 minites between teleports back home.BertiecrafterDo whatever you like...
All possible survival servers you describe, are already there.
I've been looking for something like what OP is describing for a while. The problem with most of them is that they're pure vanilla and no one moderates them. That and they don't have some basic quality of life stuff, like /sethome or mob gried turned off.
kemmeoIn my opinion, you can't have a server be public unless it has plugins such as NoCheatPlus and GriefPrevention (or similar). There are unfortunately too many hackers, griefers and trouble makers out there that would love to dismantle your unprotected server.
You could start a public vanilla server, running a snapshot version such as 15w43, because no one has made hack clients for these, but at the end of the day, if you want a vanilla server, best to keep it whitelisted and go through some invite based system.
Invite people you trust to the server and let them suggest people they trust. This way, you get a much closer community and a the chance of malicious griefs is practically zero.
