No problem! If you want to go full custom, name your budget and I can try to put something together as well.

Absolutely. Smartphones are at the point that pocket PCs and PDAs tried to reach, but couldn't. They were too far ahead of their time, and as a result, could not reach the performance levels necessary to do most things a "normal" computer could. Nowadays, for well under a grand you can head to the store (in a mask) and buy a phone that's almost as powerful as the laptop being sold right next to it.

Pair the performance with software like Samsung DeX for when you're at home, and you have a solution that I can safely say would be more than sufficient for 90% of current PC owners. Most people browse the web, do office work, watch videos, and maybe play some light games, and a modern smartphone can do all that at once without too much trouble.

Nothing in addition to OptiFine will make a substantial difference, especially at that performance level. If you've been having serious performance issues for 6 years, it may be time to upgrade.

If I were you, I'd head to eBay and pick up an old workstation from a business surplus seller. Companies typically upgrade their computers on a 2-5 year cycle, so you can usually find some recent gear for cheap! Something like a Dell OptiPlex 790 with an Intel i5 and 8 GB RAM would work perfectly. If you want a huge improvement, add in a cheap low-power graphics card, like an Nvidia GT 1030 (get one that says it has GDDR5 memory). All-in, you're looking at around $80-100 for the computer, $80 for the graphics card, and $20-50 for a decent solid-state drive to make the system snappy.

If you need something portable, there are quite a few decent laptops in the $250-400 price range with AMD Ryzen CPUs with pretty good Vega graphics. Look for a Ryzen 3 3200U processor or better, and you'll be set.

Give it a few weeks and see what the 2080 Super/2080 Ti Super look like. Price drops are imminent!

Assuming you've got a Core 2 Quad and a decent GPU, you should still be able to run a lot of games at modest settings.

With the Bedrock edition now containing more than 80% of the Minecraft playerbase (source: Aubrey Norris), what steps will be taken to incorporate sitewide support for this new main version of the game?

I feel like most of the community for vanilla survival has moved to Bedrock, since it's way easier to spin up a world for people to join, and more accessible from multiple devices. The SMP servers that still exist on Java have either been around for a while, or are purpose-built for existing communities. Trying to start one past 2012 or so has been extraordinarily difficult.

The GTX 1080 is rated at 180W, and overclocked draws ~216.

That being said, prebuilt power supplies are typically in the 250W range for total power.

    1. The Marketplace is filled with content created by the community, dwarfing the amount of legacy first-party content. Ditching this model for a "season pass" strategy hurts community creators, taking revenue away from them and putting it entirely in Mojang's pockets. Besides, it's not like the Marketplace is the only place to get new Bedrock content. The game natively supports custom skins, packs, and world imports.

    2. While they won't be selling new copies of the legacy console editions, players who already own it can still play it whenever (and, I believe, reinstall whenever). I feel like their best bet is to re-release the minigames from legacy editions, though in time servers and community-created maps will likely reproduce them anyway.

    3. Legacy console editions had fewer cheats for the same reason macOS has fewer viruses - it's a very closed platform. Because this edition is cross-platform, console players can often run into PC and mobile users running cheats. While Windows has something built-in to combat this (called TruePlay), Mojang hasn't implemented it to proceed with their hands-off approach to dealing with cheaters. The community has been handling them for 8 years now - no reason to change what already works well.

    4. I mostly agree with your points here. The new UI is pretty good, but crafting on legacy console was a lot more organized in my opinion.

    5. The game runs pretty darn well in its current state. It runs like butter even on less powerful devices, and has very high scalability for powerful desktop PC's. The upcoming graphics engine rework will optimize performance even more, paving the way for the Super Duper Graphics Pack. With the exception of initial startup, loading times are faster across the board compared to Java, and on par with legacy console. The menu system used to be slow, but as of a few updates ago it's been very snappy. While the new menu animations could use some work (30 or 60 FPS lock on the animation is a poor choice), but overall it's as responsive as legacy versions. As for the textures, I agree some of them are outdated, but I think they're holding out for the complete texture rework to make any changes.

If you can wait another month or two, you should. GPU prices are slowly dropping as mining growth is slowing. Just recently GTX 1050 Ti prices dropped below $200, but that's still a lot more than the $150 MSRP.

A gaming PC is a PC you use to play games, regardless of resolution or settings.

From a marketing standpoint, a gaming PC is a PC with a GeForce GTX or Radeon RX GPU.
