Backstory: Ryan originally grew up in Sinnoh, where he lived with his big sister Cynthia, whom he looked up to a lot. She owned a Gible which they used to play games with all the time, but as time passed, she grew much stronger and eventually left Ryan to explore the region and eventually become the champion. A year later Ryan got his first Pokemon, a Turtwig. He cared for it as much as he had cared for his sister's Gible. After bonding with it and training it even more, he decided it was time for him to go and explore the region.
He and his Turtwig bonded a lot through his journey, more than any of his other Pokemon. By the time he was going to face his sister, now the champion, he had already turned his Turtwig into a Torterra. His battle with his sister lasted a long time, and was close, but he pulled through and managed to beat her. Who knew, Ryan could actually beat his sister. After that he decided to explore the other regions, mastering every one and eventually getting really bored of them. When he heard of the new region, of course he had to go!
