3. A lot of servers are still 1.4, if you're running 1.5 you won't be able to log on. Also, a lot of other servers have just updated to 1.5 and may be working out some kinks with craftbukkit plug-ins etc.

Craftbukkit has had a 1.5 compatible recommended build for quite a few days now though, most servers should be on 1.5_02 by now.
