It would be one thing if this was a serious post that was well thought out, but this post seems to be thought up of on the whim, and these are my reasons why.
1. If you are donating for God stuff, then people tend to look up to you. Asking you for assistance or protection. Rarely have I seen them call someone a 'Cheater' for having bought items.
2. The people who give out the donator ranks do care. They like that you care about a community so much they you are willing to spend some money toward it. They enjoy that they do not have to spend their own $150 dollars a month to run their 64GB server. This seriously angers me, because how else will big servers run? The minecraft community is RAN by servers, without the servers their would be no community to play with in the first place.
3. Yes, some players may become jealous of you, but hardly ever will they decide they 'dislike' you because you contributed to the server that they are playing on. How can you not like someone because they donated to the server and therefor should be looked down upon? This does not make any sense whatsoever.
4. Hardly does a server owner use mommies credit card to pay for it. I don't know about everyone else, but if I was to ask my mother to pay for my server she would promptly refuse. This is because she thinks it is a waste of time.
When you do donate to a server it is because you appreciate what the staff of that server has done to make the experience enjoyable. You donate because you want to keep the server up. You donate because you want the perks, whatever the reason. Your donations ARE used to pay for the server, advertise the server to increase the popularity, and upgrade the server.
Roughly I spend about $300 total to run my minecraft network, I do about 40 hours of work to it a week, why should we be frowned upon for accepting donations to fund a server and possibly spend a little for personal stuff if we happen to get a few extra dollars in donations?
Heck! For about two years of running my server 90% of the months I ended up paying out of pocket!
5. If you are getting bored of servers, then you either don't have enough imagination or creativity to find something to do or the server you played on must be another one of those Faction servers.
