I think it actually says something out a new era or something depending where you look the theory is always different.
But the one that interests me is this
The Popol Vuh describes the gods first creating three failed worlds, followed by a successful fourth world in which humanity was placed. In the Maya Long Count, the previous world ended after 13 b'ak'tuns, or roughly 5,125 years. The Long Count's "zero date" was set at a point in the past marking the end of the third world and the beginning of the current one, which corresponds to 11 August 3114 BC in the proleptic Gregorian calendar.This means that the fourth world will also have reached the end of its 13th b'ak'tun, or Mayan date 13.0.0.0.0, on December 21, 2012
If you think about this our 'gods' could be aliens that are experimenting by making worlds and seeing what lifeforms evolve and we happen to be the 4th attempt in our solar system and there have been loads of reports in ancient times of gods and demons etc which could be these aliens experimenting eg. a not so ancient one is the black death where people saw people wearing black robes holding a staff that sprayed out a strange mist and shortly after people started to get the black death and this is wear the image of the grim reaper came from. so they could have decided after so long they would destroy the planet or something but they are theorys that say 2012 will be the new age maybe these aliens will come down and talk with us IDK but it's actually very interesting stuff if your open to different theorys.
