Alright, so.
I was walking along on my main survival world at sunset, not too far from my house, when in the middle of crossing a river I saw some leafless trees on the other side. After thinking for a moment, I decided that they must have been the result of an apple-gathering rampage I had gone on when apples first started dropping from leaves -- I had stripped large amounts of leaves and not bothered mining the wood. But still, I was pretty sure that this wasn't the same area...
I quelled my feelings of fear and kept going. There was only about 5 or so bare trunks, and behind those was a regular forest. A few seconds of walking in the forest later, I heard a cave noise.
I ran straight home along the treetops.
