I also use hotkeys instead of the scroll wheel to nav the hotbar (in order: Q, 2, 3, 4, 5, T, X, C, V) so I sometimes just optimize my hotbar for whichever key is easiest to reach (usually Q, 4, 5, X, or C)
Sword (or axe, in which case the empty slot could be used for anything, probably a bow or smth) Pick Shovel Axe Water or lava bucket (or bow, if the mobs were especially annoying that day) Free Space (Blocks if I'm building, or some material if I'm trying to keep track of how much of a material I have at any given time) Blocks Torches Food (steak 4 life)

Try working with some more shades for each color (eg. 5-10, whatever looks or feel natural to you) so they can blend together better. Just remember that with some practice, you can be however good at shading as you want to be :)
I used to be a staunch bedrock supporter, but since then I've recognized the error of my ways and switched to the truly superior version, java edition. :)
The only experience I've had with Skindex is trying to download a skin and ending up getting a virus? thing that only changed my default browser to Bing sooo
