Ah sweet, 1.20.5 and 1.20.6 have been released, we're still on .4, but we've added protocol support. For all those players who's profile auto update to latest.

For server owners who are interested in how I sometimes handle staff applications:

We've opened them up to our community for a short period of time, something we almost never do. Typically, we reach out to players quietly and gradually introduce them to the community. However, there are times when we need to be open to fresh eyes, new perspectives, and 'for other reasons.'

If you're interested in seeing how I've done it this time around, there's a public announcement with some instructions. It's designed to be easy for those who may not read a full block of text, allowing them to understand a few key instructions. Additionally, we've started to require an age, specifically 16+, on a 13+ server. We have a temporary public forum this time on Discord where applicants can publish their applications. It's a bit intimidating being public, but that aspect tells us a lot about the player as well. Feel free to take a look.

You can read their posts, my responses, and a variety of questions about the community and other topics.

It's nothing special, but instead of just having random DM conversations or a private ticket, or a temporarily locked channel per person, we've done it slightly differently.

One secret aspect that we don't typically reveal to players is that there's more to the process. Not everybody will realize that, and that's where it gets a little interesting. Through this process, people might be hesitant to post 'I just want it' because they know it looks silly. The reason it's public is that others can see the type of responses and perhaps realize they're not ready yet, or that we take it seriously even though it's a volunteer position. It's a 'read between the lines - and there's more to it' kind of situation.

Anyway, I thought since we have server owners here, and every community is different, it might be nice to share how I did it this time around and provide some extra information that our players generally don't get to see. Have a look around and maybe get inspired to approach 'adding new staff' just slightly differently next time so you can 'guide' the target audience you're looking for toward an application and find the right person but with a different perspective and attitude. Maybe that helps move a community forward.

    I hope I made any sense 😛 .gg/floris
